Build an Oak Side Table: Beginner Woodworking Class

Description

$265.00 3 Hours / Session Single Session All Levels, Beginner Friendly In-Person Class Materials: Included

Sunset Park in Brooklyn

Learn to use real power tools like a table saw, router table, and belt sander in this woodworking class in NYC, where your instructor walks you through safety instruction before any hands-on work begins. Held in a professional workshop in Industry City, Brooklyn, this class is built for complete beginners, with step-by-step guidance at every stage as you build your own oak side table from raw wood.

You will measure and shape your own wood using a miter saw, table saw, and belt sander, then use a router table to cut the classic half lap joints that hold your table together, the same joinery method used in traditional furniture making. Standing in front of a table saw or router table for the first time can feel intimidating, especially if you have never used a power tool before, but that is exactly the point of this class. Your instructor stays with you at each tool, so the moment that felt intimidating becomes the moment you realize you can actually do this yourself.

Once your joints are cut and fitted, you will assemble the pieces into a side table. It will not be stained or finished during class, but your instructor walks you through exactly how to do that once you are home, so you can finish it however fits your space. Either way, you are leaving with a table you built yourself, joints and all, ready to finish and use in your own home.
