Step into a working textile atelier in the heart of Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and spend a few hours creating something entirely your own. No experience or artistic background is required, just curiosity and a willingness to play with color and texture.
You’ll discover Paint with Wool, a signature technique created by textile artist Astrid. Inspired by the freedom of painting, the process uses a multi-needle tool to work wool directly into linen with short, rhythmic strokes. Color, pattern, and texture gradually build layer by layer, much like filling a canvas with paint, but using wool instead.
You’ll begin by choosing a motif and selecting wool colors from a curated collection. Guided by Astrid, you’ll learn how to use the multi-needle tool and work the wool into the fabric as your composition takes shape. The process is rhythmic and meditative, giving you time to relax, experiment, and follow your own creative direction.
What begins as a blank linen canvas will become a one-of-a-kind textile artwork designed and made by you, ready to frame or display at home.
All materials are included, including linen fabric, wool, and a multi-needle tool. Light refreshments will also be served throughout the session.
This Paint with Wool workshop is a welcoming introduction to textile art with wool for anyone looking to explore a new creative hobby in NYC. You’ll leave with an original piece of art and a new way of working with color, pattern, texture, and wool.
