A relaxing private Korean folk art painting class for beginners, art lovers, and experienced hobbyists who are curious about Minhwa, a traditional Korean folk painting style filled with color, symbolism, and story.
In this class, you’ll color a pre-drawn Tiger and Magpie with Peony design with clear, step-by-step guidance from the instructor. No prior Minhwa or painting experience is needed. The format is easy to follow for beginners, while still offering artists and creative learners a chance to explore a Korean painting tradition, symbolic imagery, and a technique they may not have practiced before.
This private class works well for small groups, cultural programs, family gatherings, creative celebrations, and anyone looking for a calm, hands-on introduction to Korean art.
We aim to be fair to both learners and instructors while ensuring artists and studios are paid for their work. This policy helps ensure instructors and studios are compensated for their time and preparation. We encourage learners to review class details carefully before booking and to reach out with any questions in advance.
Some classes have a class-specific cancellation, refund, or credit policy. If applicable, it will be listed in the class description and will apply where it differs from the general policy below. Please review the full class description before booking.
Tickets are refundable if canceled at least 7 days before the event. If you cancel, a cancellation fee equal to the payment processing cost for the transaction, approximately 3% of the booking total, will be deducted from your refund.
If you’re unable to attend, you’re welcome to give your ticket to a friend. Please have them check in using your name.
In the rare case that the event does not meet minimum participation requirements, we’ll contact ticket holders at least 48 hours in advance with the option to reschedule or receive a refund, excluding the nonrefundable payment processing cost.

Korean Folk Art, Inc. is led by Stephanie S. Lee, Founder and Lead Teaching Artist, a Queens-based visual artist and educator with studios in Queens and Brooklyn. She is dedicated to sharing Minhwa, the tradition of Korean folk painting, with contemporary audiences.
Through beginner-friendly workshops, Lee introduces students to step-by-step painting techniques while sharing the cultural stories behind each image. The classes are warm, calm, and supportive, making Minhwa accessible for adults, families, seniors, and learners of all experience levels.
Lee is a NYC DOE-registered teaching artist and a teaching artist with the Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts. She has taught through museums, libraries, schools, cultural organizations, and public programs across the United States.
Her artwork has been exhibited in Korea and New York, as well as at Korean Cultural Centers in Paris and Washington, D.C. Her work has also been selected twice for the U.S. Department of State’s Art in Embassies program. She holds a BFA and MS from Pratt Institute.
Please arrive about 10 minutes before the class starts so you can settle in comfortably.

Led by Stephanie S. Lee, each workshop moves at a gentle, easy-to-follow pace. Beginners feel comfortable from the start, while experienced learners can enjoy a refreshing approach to color, brushwork, pattern, and symbolic imagery through a painting tradition they may not have tried before.
Classes take place in a dedicated classroom within a clean, well-maintained artist’s home studio. The setting feels quiet, and welcoming, giving students a comfortable place to slow down, paint, and enjoy the creative process.
