Decorative Sushi Roll Making: Cat & Paw Print

Description

$80.00 1.5 Hours / Session In-Person Class Materials: Included

Bo Lee – Primary Location in Brooklyn

Learn decorative sushi roll making in NYC through Kazari Maki Zushi, Japan’s art of patterned sushi.

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll make two playful designs: a cat face roll and a cat paw print roll. The picture is built inside the sushi roll, so when you slice it, the design appears in every piece.

This process is different from regular sushi making. You’ll create small sushi “building blocks,” then assemble them into an image inside the roll. It may look detailed at first, but the class is beginner-friendly and no sushi experience is needed.

For this Cat & Paw Print theme, the colors come from food ingredients such as black sesame, beet powder, nori, cheese stick, and yamagobo, a pickled burdock root. The result is both cute and edible, bringing together Japanese food culture, visual design, and the simple fun of making something by hand.

This class is a good fit for cat lovers, food lovers, families, friends, and anyone looking for a creative cooking experience. You can enjoy your sushi during class or take your rolls home to share.

The workshop is taught by Hiroyo Belmonte, a native of Hokkaido, Japan. She has studied baking, pastry, and wagashi in Japan, completed bread technique training at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York, and holds a Level 1 instructor certification in decorative sushi from the Japan Sushi Instructors Association.
