Drawing Meditation: A Beginner-Friendly Mindful Drawing Class

Description

$40.00 1.5 Hours / Session Single Session All Levels, Beginner Friendly In-Person Class Materials: Included

Crown Heights in Brooklyn

In this beginner-friendly drawing meditation class in Brooklyn, you’ll learn drawing meditation, a practice of repeating simple lines with focused attention to the present moment. No drawing experience is needed. If you’ve ever wanted to draw but didn’t know where to start, this mindful drawing class is for you.

Like Zen sand raking, the work begins with a single line and a breath. You repeat it, focusing on the point where ink meets paper, letting each line follow the last, wavers and all. A rhythm emerges, and that rhythm begins to guide you. Sometimes the drawing looks like something. Sometimes it doesn't. Either way, it's a surprise.

What makes this practice special is what happens beneath the surface: the judgment, the perfectionism, the self-criticism that arises, and the relationship you slowly develop with it. Drawing meditation is a portal to real creativity, and quietly, a door to inner healing too.

What to Expect

  • A guided drawing meditation practice rooted in breath, presence, and repetitive line-making
  • An introduction to the core technique: focusing on the point where ink meets paper
  • The experience of entering a meditative state through drawing, no art or meditation background needed

  • A simple, portable creative practice you can return to on your own

Your Instructor

Jayse Lee is a designer, educator, artist, and meditator with over twenty years of professional creative experience and more than a decade of teaching experience through General Assembly, Designlab, and Pratt. After years of channeling her creative energy into digital design, she began drawing and painting with inks and acrylics on paper as a way to reconnect with creative play and self-growth.

For Jayse, drawing meditation is a practice that arrived all at once one day. It expresses the principles of meditation, breath, presence, and allowing, through simple lines on the page, evocative of Zen sand raking. Without a vision to achieve, there are no mistakes. Present awareness and intuition guide the unfolding.

Her classes invite students into this simple practice as a doorway into the river of creativity alive in everyone. With a strong visual sensibility, a long-standing meditation practice, and years of teaching experience, Jayse creates a calm and supportive space where students can slow down, follow the line, and explore creativity without pressure or perfection.
