Michelle Greene is a sculptor and educator whose work explores movement through metal, transforming a rigid material into forms that can feel fluid, playful, and sometimes kinetic. Her sculpture has a contemporary, raw industrial quality, and she often repurposes objects or ideas from a community’s past into new forms.
Alongside her studio practice, Michelle has taught art and metal fabrication at several universities and currently teaches at Parsons. She brings that experience into small, hands-on classes at her working studio in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, where students can learn welding and metalworking with close individual guidance.
Her classes are designed to make working with metal approachable, whether you are completely new to welding or already have some experience and want to build your skills through making.

Michelle brings the perspective of a practicing sculptor, public artist, and longtime educator directly into the class. Her public work includes Railrider’s Throne in the MTA permanent collection and projects created for the Brooklyn Navy Yard. She is also a Part-time Associate Teaching Professor at Parsons, where she teaches Metal Fabrication.
Classes are limited to just two students, giving Michelle time to work closely with each person as they learn the equipment, safety, and technique. The small format makes welding approachable for complete beginners while giving those with previous experience plenty of individual guidance.
You’ll learn in the Brooklyn Navy Yard studio where Michelle makes her own sculpture. High ceilings, open windows, metal, tools, works in progress, and views toward the waterfront make this feel unmistakably like a working artist’s space rather than a conventional classroom.
